Android updates

Helpful Hints, Warnings | Posted by Dennis May 7th, 2011

Did you know that your phone might need updates?  It’s easy to do on Android, and you’ll really want to do it if you updated your ‘droid version (e.g. I just went from 2.1 to 2.2 AKA Froyo).  Just go to Marketplace, and you’ll see an Update button.  Some of the apps will update automatically, but others will have to be installed manually (just press the button).  The reason for the manual updates are to warn you about privacy; these apps have changed what information they access from your phone, so you have to agree before installing.  Note:  be sure you have a good internet connection before doing this.  Wi-fi is recommended.

Froyo ROCKS!

I’m simply BLOWN AWAY by the difference in my Android phone.  I’ve had the upgrade to 2.2.2 (Froyo) for about a week now, and it’s like having a new, better smartphone.  The Samsung Intercept had several issues when I got it, but it shipped with Android 2.1 (Eclair) and it looks like a lot of the issues were software related.  It’s much snappier now, and hasn’t locked up or had any of the sluggish behavior as before.  I’m totally sold on Android now, and looking forward to tablets with version 3 (Honeycomb).  I’m pretty sure these devices will give the iPad a run for its money.  Meanwhile, for my $40/month at Virgin Mobile, I NEVER have to check my minutes any more!  So far the service has been solid, but I haven’t travelled far from home yet.

Android Update

Well it’s been a couple of months now since I made the switch to Android.  Overall I’m really happy with the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile.  I’ve only had a few glitches, and it’s always worked to pull the battery and pop it back in.  Meanwhile I just got some GREAT NEWS!  This phone will be upgraded to the new Android! (Froyo)  I’m pretty happy about that, since I have to regularly kill app’s right now, and supposedly the new version ends that issue.  It also allows more storage and installation to memory cards.  This now gives users two GREAT choices if you want a smartphone on Virgin’s service.

LG Optimus V

Wow, what a killer little phone!  I just transferred my wife’s service to Virgin Mobile.  Now we’ll be saving about $1,000 per year over all other carriers!  This smartphone simply ROCKS.  The new Android (Froyo) is very nice!  No more worries about clearing memory, either.   Now I’m jealous.  :-)  I hope they upgrade the Samsung Intercept soon.  The only thing I don’t like about it so far is the lack of a QWERTY keyboard, but I just read a comment where there’s some kind of SLIDE app that helps.  Stay tuned!

More great news on the Android front!  Now Virgin Mobile has ANOTHER phone!  It’s the LG Optimus V, and it’s a sweet little Smartphone for only $149 US.  Looks like for now it’s a Radio Shack Exclusive…. but I was so hyped about it I went and got my wife one for Valentines’ Day.  It ships with Android 2.2 (Froyo), so I’m hoping all the little headaches that came with previous the previous Android will be gone.  I’ll keep you posted!
